Bayern Munich Superstar Thomas Muller admits he was close to joining long time seeker Manchester United after he felt a need for change two years back. The German forward revealed he had considered a move to the Europa League winners but Bayern did enough to make him drop the plan.
Manchester United has been tracking Muller for years now; former manager Louis Van Gaal also made several bids in an attempt to lure the star to England. Bayern Munich’s executive vice-chairman Jan-Christian also confirmed that United had made a €100 million bid for the player.
The German champions never measured a potential deal and kept Muller very much intact in their plans. But apparently Muller was looking out, in a conversation with German magazine Kicker he said, “There was a time two years back when I thought about it but my club (Bayern) immediately came to my support and they told me I belonged here.”
“Bayern told me how important I was for them so I didn’t give the idea a second thought”
If the 27-year old had joined United then he could have been the leading attacker at the Old Trafford today but the turnaround of events kept him in Germany.
Muller is currently an integral part of the Bayern squad despite having a rough season last year. He is a Bayern Munich player and does not intend to change that anytime soon.
