It was a Sad day for football as 9-year-old Juventus starlet Tomasso Cerase died while playing at the club’s training camp in Manhattan, New York on Sunday.

The tragic incident happened when the Old Lady juniors were playing in a training session. According to Calcio Mercato the footballer fell trap to the goal net which came straight on him injuring him heavily.

Reportedly the boy was hanging on the goal post before it collapsed, crushing his head and injuring his skull.

As per an NY Daily report, Tommaso’s mother Barbara Riccardi along with several other parents was also present at the camp when the mishap happened. She rushed her son to the Roosevelt Hospital but the doctors couldn’t save the little boy.

He was training under the surveillance of 3 adults and there were 8 other kids who were also playing at the time.

Juventus academy camps are weekly soccer programs through which the club intakes young football kids of age 5-17 and brush their football skills preparing them for bigger platforms.

The incident which has left the entire academy mourning their young player’s loss is being investigated by the New York Police and the medical examiners are still to clarify on the reason for his death. NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio took to Facebook to express his grief on the loss and wrote the demise was ‘Hearbreaking’.

Tomasso Cerase was a resident of Upper West side, New York. Our hopes and prayers are with his family.
