Manchester United will begin their Carabao (EFL) Cup defence today against Burton Albion. Jose Mourinho’s men have been in a fine form this season and currently share the top spot in the Premier League table with rivals Manchester City.

Reds won the trophy last year with a 3-2 win over Southampton and will go into the game with decent advantage over the 2nd tier side. The goals have been flowing in for the Red Devils this season and they have already scored 16 goals in the league and have seen them come from as many as 6 different players.

The English Football League Cup which is now called the Carabao Cup was manager Jose Mourinho’s very first trophy as a United manager.

Burton are a Championship side but possess undying ambitions when it comes to big games, the 19th ranked 2nd tier side have edged Oldham Athletic and Cardiff City to setup this mega clash with the Europa League champions.

United thrashed Everton 40-0 in their last League game and will carry a lot of positives from the win.

Team News: Luke Shaw can make a return as the left back has performed well for the u-23s along with Michael Carrick who is yet to feature for the Reds this season. Manager Jose Mourinho has already confirmed 4 stars who will not start in the game, David De Gea, Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly and Nemanja Matic will all be rested. In absence of De Gea, Romero will get the chance to guide the goal for United. Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcos Rojo and Axel Tuanzebe remain sidelined with injuries.

For Burton, defender John Brayford will not play and attacking midfielder William Miller will be ourt with an injury.

Burton has faced United only twice in a competitive fixture before with results of 0-0 draw and a 5-0 loss.3
