After failing to rope in Philippe Coutinho during the summer window, Barcelona are set to make another move for the Liverpool star. According to reports, the Catalan giants will be making another bid for the 25-year-old in January next year. “We are ready to buy Coutinho in the winter market, or any player the technical staff request,” Barcelona CEO Oscar Grau said while addressing a press conference.”But it is important to adjust ourselves, so if there are to be arrivals, there must be exits as well,” he added. “We must forget about the price paid for Neymar last summer. After taxes we received about €188m in income and a direct financial impact on the club’s treasury of €144m,” Grau further said.
Former Liverpool player Dominic Matteo thinks Coutinho is one step ahead of his teammates and could easily move to Barcelona or Real Madrid because of his skills. “He seems to be a level ahead of even the (Roberto) Firmino’s and the Mane’s, he is one of those players that could easily go into a Barcelona or a Real Madrid as he is that clever and he has got such a good football brain, something that us footballers dreamed of having, he is one step ahead,” Matteo was quoted as saying by betsafe.com.
It must be recalled that Barcelona were desperate to sign Coutinho over the summer with the Brazilian himself trying to materialise the deal by letting Liverpool know he wanted to move on. However, three Barcelona bids were rejected by the Reds before the end of transfer deadline. Coutinho has made three appearances under Jurgen Klopp this season and scored twice against Leicester and Newcastle. Liverpool are currently placed at seventh position in the Premier League standings with three wins, three losses and one draw. They will clash with league toppers Manchester United on Saturday in their next encounter.
