Manchester City are likely to make a cut-price £20 million bid for Arsenal’s star striker Alexis Sanchez during the January transfer window. Earlier, Arsene Wenger had remarked that he could sell Sanchez and midfielder Mesut Ozil in the winter window. ‘Once you are in our kind of situation, we have envisaged every kind of solution. Yes, it’s possible,’ Arsenal boss had said on Thursday when asked if the club was planning to sell the Chilean during the winter window.
Pep Guardiola’s side had made several attempts to rope in Sanchez over the summer, however the deal did not materialise. If City do make a fresh bid for Chile international, his value could plummet to as little as £20m with only six months left for his contract to expire. Sanchez has just returned to London Following Chile’s failure to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and is heartbroken over the same. Chile’s World Cup dreams were shattered after a loss to Brazil followed by draw between Colombia and Peru. “He is in a very difficult place. Chile just won the Copa America twice and now they don’t even go to the World Cup,” Wenger said.
“He expected to go and it is certainly a big disappointment for him. Sanchez is 29 at the end of the year, so at the next one he will be 33. You want your players to have positive experiences, and to go to the World Cup is the target of every player,” Wenger further added. Arsenal manager has also hinted at selling Mesut Ozil, who also happens to be in the last year of his contract. In current season of Premier League, Arsenal are placed at fifth position with four wins. Manchester City continue to top the rankings with 19 points. The Gunners will clash with Watford in their next match on Saturday.
