Indian skipper Virat Kohli is probably in the best form of his life. The cricketer has earned a new admirer in the form of former Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara who has said Kohli is likely to break his record of scoring most runs in a calendar year in 2018. Sangakkara had set the record by scoring 2868 runs in the year 2014. Kohli, on the other hand, scored 2818 runs this year across all formats, which is the third highest by any player. “I don’t think that will last long the way @imVkohli is batting. He will probably overtake it next year and then do it again the year after. He is a different class,” Sanga said in reply to a tweet of a BBC reporter.
Indian captain Kohli has been rested for upcoming ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka, which means he would not be able to achieve the marvellous feat this year. Kohli will be back in action during the Test series against Proteas when India tour South Africa. Earlier in the day, the former Indian captain, Rahul Dravid had showered praises upon the Indian skipper saying he is one of the best batsmen in the world at the moment and a huge inspiration for juniors. “Kohli has been absolutely sensational in past 18 months. I do not like comparing people, but he is one of the best batsmen in the world in all three formats of the game. I tell my boys to learn consistency from him,” the coach of India’s U-19 team had said in an exclusive conversation with NewsX.
Team India are currently on top of the game after defeating Sri Lanka in the recently concluded Test series. The team is set to play an ODI and T20I series with Lankans before flying to South Africa for a long tour.
