Congress' infiltration policy in Assam faulty: BJP
Wed-Aug 06, 2008
Guwahati / Press Trust of India
The BJP has alleged that the ruling Congress in Assam was pursuing a "faulty policy" towards infiltration from across the border.
"Due to the faulty policy of the Congress-led government large scale infiltration was going on and the authorities are keeping mum," BJP Vice-president Bijoya Chakraborty told reporters.
The BJP leader demanded that the security forces be deployed in full swing at the borders to check infiltration and alleged that till now only the BSF and some other agencies have been deployed in only a "limited way" to guard the borders.
The party also demanded a list from the Centre mentioning the number of Bangladeshi nationals who had obtained a valid passport since 1972.
Chakraborty said that the party will not remain a silent spectator particularly after the fact that a foreign national could be able to contest election by obtaining a false citizenship certificate.
