Karachi / Press Trust of India

Disgraced Pakistani pacer Mohammad Asif and his lawyer Hamid Karim are coming to India next week to appear before the Drugs Inquiry Tribunal of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Karim told PTI on Monday that he had asked for some clarifications from the IPL on the doping case of Asif and they would travel to India next week to attend a tribunal hearing.

Asif's 'B' sample had also tested positive for the banned substance nandrolone last week in Geneva, Switzerland but the nanogram traces in his urine sample was 5.4, while in his earlier test conducted by the IPL, the nanogram traces came at 6.2.

Karim said no decision had been taken as yet when they would file a formal appeal with the IPL tribunal that has Ravi Bapat, vice-chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, former India Test captain Sunil Gavaskar and Shirish Gupte.

The IPL has set up the tribunal to look into Asif's dope flunk. Bapat has said the difference in traces of banned substance found in Asif's sample was not surprising and that he would get a fair hearing from the tribunal.

Karim said he would make a formal announcement about the appeal procedure after Asif returns home from Dubai.

"We are looking at some technical aspects of the case with the assistance of a British sports medicine and doping expert and we will then file appeal.

"We have sent a formal request to the IPL for a hearing in which we have informed them that the tests had shown traces of different food in the sample as well."
