Raj Thackeray denies extending signboards deadline

Sun-Aug 31, 2008

Mumbai / Press Trust of India

After backing off from the issue of Marathi signboards, followed by the decision of the Bombay High Court, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray said on Sunday that the deadline has not been extended.

"I have not extended the deadline to put Marathi signboards on shops," Raj said in a release, adding, no extension would be given to any shopowner in the state. After the Court order, Raj had appealed MNS activists to be calm and said he will wait and watch.

"We are watching the performance of the state government and BMC, as they are implementing an old rule stipulating mandatory signboards in Marathi and then will decide the line of action," he said.

A delegation of shopowners had met Raj last week, requesting him to extend the deadline for Marathi signboards by three months, which ended on August 28.

Raj denied the news of extending the deadline. He said a rumour was spread through media that he has given three more months to shopowners.

Taking the credit of the campaign, Raj said this is the first time that the state has witnessed a huge change in favour of Marathi due the MNS campaign.

"People have changed the signboards into Marathi and remaining are doing it," he added.

Namaskaar Raj Thackrey ji and all who share the same mindset of MARATHI CARD.

Well, Mi Pann Pakka Marathi Maanoos Aahe!( Well, I am a proper Maharashtrian man). By Education and Profession I am a Mediaperson since around 8 years with good academics and not bad experience in all corners of India and Europe too in media. But to my misfortune, I am a maharashtrian who stays in Baroda, Gujarat and know Marathi, Hindi and Gujarati very well, equally good.

But, counting the opportunity to get work in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Hindi Speaking states, I am a refugee in my own country. Gujarati Media plays Gujarati Card against me saying my mother tongue is Marathi though I am born and brought up in Gujarat. The Maharashtrian recruters show me the placard of Maharashtra Navnirmaan Sena and say you live in Gujarat, how come you are a Maharashtrian?

Mr. Thackray, are you not ashamed of dividing India and its countrymen for your shit politics? If you are, it is my humble request, please help me in finding a job soon.
