There cannot be any compromise on terror and the government was committed to combating terrorism, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Saturday as he visited the sites of Thursday's serial bomb blasts in Guwahati.
"We will not be soft on terror and there will be no compromise on terror," Singh said after visiting the blast sites and meeting the injured at hospitals.
The prime minister was accompanied by Congress party president Sonia Gandhi.
"Whosoever is responsible for the dastardly act we will take effective measures and if other governments are involved we will take up this matter with them also," the prime minister said.
Singh refused to divulge details of investigations into the serial bombings Thursday that killed at least 77 people and wounded about 300.
"We will look into all clues and proper investigations are on, but it would not be right to tell anything more at this stage," the prime minister said.
Singh and Gandhi visited the blasts victims at a hospital in Guwahati amidst a statewide bandh called by several organisations.
After arriving at the Lokopriyo Gopinath International Airport where they were received by Governor S C Mathur and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi they drove to the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital to meet the injured in the serial blasts.
There was tight security around the hospital with mediapersons not allowed to enter.
Later, Singh and Gandhi would also meet the injured at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.
The leaders would visit the blast site near the Deputy Commissioner's office and hold a high-level meeting with the chief minister, cabinet members and senior officials.
Meanwhile, the BJP, VHP and Bajrang Dal have separately called a day-long bandh in protest against the serial blasts.
