1 killed, 7 wounded in Oklahoma festival shooting; suspects arrested

The OSBI initially stated that two kids were injured in the incident, but later clarified that just one juvenile was hurt.

After one person was killed and seven others were injured in a shooting early Sunday at an outdoor event in eastern Oklahoma, authorities said a 26-year-old man was arrested. Witnesses reported frantic people rushing for cover amid gunfire.

Skyler Buckner was arrested and turned himself into the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday afternoon, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. The shooters at the Memorial Day celebration in Taft, about 45 miles southeast of Tulsa, were aged 9 to 56, according to the OSBI.

The event drew about 1,500 people to Taft, which has a population of only a few hundred people. OSBI reported that members of the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office were present and quickly began offering aid.

Jasmayne Hill, who was working at a food truck during the event, told the Tulsa World, “Bullets were absolutely flying everywhere.”

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt expressed his gratitude for the OSBI’s “quick response to assist local police” on Twitter.
