Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, accepted the proposal requiring a minimum of 6 airbags in passenger vehicles, and he announced that the new regulation will take effect on October 1, 2023.
Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, stated in a series of tweets that the safety of all passengers in motor vehicles, regardless of their price and variations, comes first. It has been agreed to adopt the proposal mandating a minimum of 6 Airbags in Passenger Cars (M-1 Category) starting on October 1, 2023, tweeted Gadkari. “Considering the global supply chain restrictions being experienced by the auto sector and its impact on the macroeconomic environment,” he added.
It had previously been determined to improve safety features by revising the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR), 1989, in order to increase the safety of motor vehicle occupants against lateral impact.
A draft notification had been released, on January 14, 2022.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways released a statement saying, “The draught mandated that vehicles of category M1, manufactured after 1st October 2022, shall be fitted with two side/side torso airbags, one each for the persons occupying front row outboard seating positions, and two side curtain/tube airbags, one each for the persons occupying outboard seating positions.
Earlier on September 6, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasised the value of seatbelts in automobiles and declared that everyone in a vehicle would be required to wear one.
The Union Minister shared a video from an occasion and said that seatbelts will soon be required.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari tweeted, “It will now be required for all the persons sitting in the automobile to wear a seat belt.”
He also mentioned in the video that front seats would now have safety alarms that will buzz if a passenger is not wearing a seat belt.
His comments came after well-known industrialist and former chairman of Tata Sons Mistry passed away in a car accident on Sunday night close to Mumbai.
Soon after the collision, rumours that he was not wearing a seat belt circulated.
Mistry was driving from Ahmedabad to Mumbai when his automobile collided with the divider, according to Palghar Police. The automobile held four occupants. Mistry was among the two who passed away immediately. The other two were taken to a hospital.
