After PM Modi’s statement on UCC, the central government has intensified the exercise on this draft. The bill is likely to be introduced in the coming parliamentary session. However, many religious organizations and political parties are opposing it. Regarding this, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has called a meeting on Wednesday on the issue of Uniform Civil Code (UCC), all the members of the board will participate in the virtual meeting and discuss the UCC.
The Law Commission of India had asked various recognized religious organisations, including the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, and the public to share their views on the UCC.
All India Muslim Personal Law Board is opposing UCC
AIMPLB General Secretary said that UCC was discussed earlier also and people’s opinion was to be taken on it, after which it was concluded that UCC is neither necessary nor desirable. Earlier, the AIMPLB in its executive meeting had passed a resolution stating that the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is not possible as it would be an unnecessary act.
BJP's agenda includes Uniform Civil Code
UCC was on the agenda of the BJP for a long time. On June 14, the Law Commission resumed its exercise on the UCC by seeking views of the public and recognized religious organizations on that proposal within 30 days.While the issue picked up steam, on June 27, PM Modi while talking about the UCC in Bhopal said that the country cannot run on two laws and Uniform Civil Code is part of the Constitution. In the BJP’s 2019 Lok Sabha election manifesto, the party had promised to implement the UCC if voted to power.
