On Monday, former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh formally joined the BJP at the party headquarters in the presence of federal ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Kiren Rijiju.

Amarinder Singh also united his Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) party with the BJP. Amarinder Singh had earlier visited with BJP head JP Nadda in Delhi.

Amarinder Singh told reporters at the BJP headquarters said he was thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President JP Nadda.

Law Minister Kiren Rijiju praised Amarinder Singh’s decision to join the party and urged the country’s right-thinking citizens should unify.

“A delicate state like Punjab must be treated with caution. During his time as CM, he never put politics before of national security “Rijiju said.

On September 12, Amarinder announced his intention to join the BJP after meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.

Amarinder Singh led the Congress Party for many years until resigning as Chief Minister in September of last year, just before the assembly elections.

He eventually resigned from the Congress and created the Punjab Lok Congress, which allied with the BJP and Sanyukt for the early-year assembly elections.

Amarinder Singh’s joining the BJP is a big shot in the arm for the party in the border state. The BJP now has a credible Sikh face in Punjab who has been active in state politics for several decades.
