National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been enlisted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to find the module after receiving information about a pervasive network run by Al-Qaeda in several districts of Assam.
NIA’s First Information Report (FIR) states that the AQIS module was “active in several districts of Assam” and had ties to the terrorist group Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) located in Bangladesh. According to reports, a branch of the outlawed terrorist group Al-Qaeda- AQIS, is active in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Burma, and Bangladesh. It was founded in 2014.
In accordance with the FIR, the module’s purpose is to “promote terror on Indian soil, create radicalise like-minded youth, and carry out recruitment to wage war” against the Union of India, with a view to overthrow the democratically elected government by establishing the “Rule of Khilafat” (Sharia Law) in India as well as to wage war against Bangladesh, an Asian neighbour on friendly terms with India, and to implement “Ghazwa-e-Hind”.
Terror groups use the word “Ghazwa-e-Hind” to describe their heinous terrorist attacks as a holy war against India.
The action came days after two madrassas in Assam were demolished by Indian authorities for allegedly engaging in “jihadi” activities there.
