The latest movie based on Jammu and Kashmir ‘Article 370’ starring Yami Gautam, Priyamani, Arun Govil, was released today. The film, helmed by National Award-winning director Aditya Suhas Jambhale, explores the PMO’s decision to revoke the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir.

Initial reviews from the public are surfacing on social media platforms, with the majority of feedback being positive.

In 2022, director Vivek Agnihotri stirred controversy with “The Kashmir Files,” a film centered around the 1990 exodus of Kashmiri Hindus, portraying the events as a genocide. Many considered this narrative controversial and propagandistic. While the protagonist advocated for the revocation of Article 370, the film did not delve into the specifics of its implications or how it would affect the lives of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.

Article 370 & The Kashmir Files

Is Article 370 a continuation of The Kashmir Files? To a certain extent, yes, but from a distinct and refreshing perspective. The film avoids any hint of jingoism or propaganda and instead presents a nuanced portrayal. It remains grounded in factual accounts, supported by thorough and outstanding research, which is where its true strength lies.

Article 370 not only chronicles the events but also delves into them to illustrate how the escalating violence in Kashmir prompted the current government to revoke J&K’s special status. I appreciate that the creators avoided relying on patriotic clichés to make an impact; instead, they opted for a compelling narrative to convey an informative story. Penned by Aditya Dhar and Monal Thaakar, the film prioritizes its narrative as the centerpiece for the majority of its runtime, despite some standout performances stealing the spotlight intermittently.

Several viewers came forth to praise the film.
