On Tuesday, a missing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician was discovered hanging from a tree in Hiranagar Town, Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, however, to investigate the exact cause of death. According to police sources, a villager saw the body of BJP leader Som Raj hanging from a tree near his home in Hiranagar town in the morning and called the police.

The body, which had blood markings, was sent to a Sub District Hospital (SDH) in Hiranagar for a post-mortem examination.

According to sources, Raj had been missing since yesterday and was discovered hanging from a tree on Tuesday under unexplained circumstances.

In this respect, Hiranagar Police have commenced inquest procedures under Section 174 CrPC.

Many BJP officials and family members sought an investigation into his death.

The deceased’s body was handed over to legal heirs for final rites after medical and legal requirements were completed.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua RC Kotwal, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by SDPO Border has been formed to examine the case.

“Questioning of the leaders on whom the family has levelled allegation will also be conducted and whosoever will be found guilty will be dealt with iron hands”, SSP asserted.
