Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Vansda Piyush Patel was allegedly attacked late on Wednesday by unknown miscreants.

BJP candidate from Vansda said that he was assaulted while travelling from Pratapnagar to Vandervela with his supporters. He said the miscreants pelted him with stones and attempted to vandalise his car.

Patel was injured on the head and was sent to the hospital with injuries.

According to Navsari’s Deputy Superintendent of Police SK Rai, a case has been lodged at the Vansda police station. Authorities stated that an investigation is ongoing.

BJP has accused Congress candidate Anant Patel’s supporters of arranging the incident.

Vansda is one of Gujarat’s 182 Legislative Assembly constituencies. It is only open to applicants from the Scheduled Tribes.

The high-octane political struggle during Gujarat Assembly election campaigns has broken down to a battle of ballots, which is starting in the first phase of voting today.
