The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti sent a letter to the Subramanya Nagar police station in Bengaluru on Friday asking for action against Amazon for selling an ‘obscene’ artwork of Radha and Krishna.
Following that, Twitter users began trending the hashtag #Boycott Amazon on the microblogging site to protest the sale of the painting.
In a later tweet, the Hindu organisation asserted that Exotic India and Amazon had both pulled the painting in response to the hashtag outcry. “It was brought to our attention that an indecent photograph was placed on our website,” Exotic India wrote in a Twitter apology. The same was instantly brought down. Please accept our heartfelt apologies and refrain from boycotting exotic India or exotic Lndia. Hare Krsna.
To which the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti replied by appreciating the prompt action and the unconditional apology.
The same painting was offered for sale by Exotic India during its Janmashtami sale, according to the Hindu organisation. On August 18 and 19, people celebrated Krishna Janmashtami.
