The rates of Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) packages for general surgery have been revised, effective from February 1, 2024. The revised rates replace the previous CGHS package rates for specified items. This revision is applicable to all CGHS cities, covering around 80 cities in India. The revised rates will be valid until further notice.

Eligibility for CGHS:

  1. All central government employees paid from the central civil estimates and their families.
  2. Central government pensioners, excluding employees under railways and Delhi administration, and government pensioners from railways and armed forces and their families.

Eligibility Criteria: Those “residing” in specified cities are covered under the CGHS scheme. Residence in a notified city is the sole criterion to determine eligibility for medical facilities under CGHS. Central government employees and their family members must reside in any of the notified cities covered under the scheme.

How to Avail CGHS Services:

  1. Employees: Fill out forms in the required format, including photos of eligible family members, and submit them to the ministry/department/office.
  2. Pensioners: Obtain a CGHS card from the office of an additional director in their city. Forms are available at the additional director’s office or headquarters in Delhi. Forms can also be downloaded from the CGHS website. Pensioners without a Pension Payment Order (PPO) can opt for a provisional card using their last pay certificate.
