Chief Minister M K Stalin announces on Wednesday, India-B and A-Women’s teams, would be receiving cash prize of Rs 1 crore each for winning bronze medals in the FIDE 44th Chess Olympiad.
Stalin said, Tamil Nadu government successfully hosted an international indoor sports event, drawing laurel from around the world.
India’s ‘B’ team at the Chess Olympiad consists of three 16-year-olds in D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa ,Raunak Sadhwani and a 18-year-old Nihal Sarin.
A-Women’s teams includes Vaishali and Koneru Humphy, Tania Sachdev and Bhakti Kulkari.
The FIDE Chess Olympiad was held at Mamallapuram and it started on July 28 and concluded on August 9. Chief Minister expressed joy over the two teams winning medals and said it has brought accolades to the country.
The Chess Olympiad was the first time held in India, the place where the game originated. The tournament’s 2022 edition set a record with 188 teams competing from roughly 187 nations.
