Following tensions over some social media posts, a curfew was enforced in Baderwah town, Doda district, Jammu, and Internet connections were suspended on Friday.
Tensions arose on Thursday as a claimed video of an inciting announcement made from a mosque in Baderwah, Jammu, went viral. A case was filed at the Bhaderwah Police Station as a result of this. According to the Jammu Police Media Centre, “Action has been taken in accordance with the law. At Bhaderwah Police Station, a case has been filed. No one will be spared if they take the law into their own hands.”
There have been two separate FIRs filed. Officials claim that the issue is under control.
However, Section 144 has been imposed and internet services have been suspended in the Kishtwar and Ramban districts as a precaution.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh appealed for calm and said he is in daily contact with officials.
District Collector Doda and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda are currently camping at Bhaderwah and monitoring the situation, according to Singh, who represents the Udhampur constituency in the Lok Sabha.
In a tweet, Singh stated, “The awful situation that arose in #Bhaderwah yesterday has profoundly distressed me. I respectfully request that the elders and heads of the two communities sit together in order to maintain the customary tranquility for which Bhaderwah has long been recognized. Meanwhile, I’m in daily contact with Doda District Commissioner Sh Vikas Sharma and Jammu Divisional Commissioner Sh Ramesh Kumar.”
