“Sportspeople find it very challenging to breathe in this air condition. It is quite tough to breathe when we go riding and jogging,” remarked Suraj from Palam. Additionally, he said, “The pollution becomes worse every year after Diwali, but the Delhi government is not doing anything about it.”

He further stated “The atmosphere has undergone a significant transformation since I last visited Delhi seven years ago. There is a lot of pollution. I feel that in order to reduce air pollution in the national capital, both the government and the general population need to be informed and take appropriate action.”

As part of its Graded Response Action Plan, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), a Union government council advising measures to control air pollution in the national capital, had previously ordered a temporary halt on building and demolition operations in Delhi-NCR (GRAP).

The declaration was made after Delhi and the surrounding area’s air quality fell into the “severe” category.
