Dukhtaran-E-Millat moves Delhi HC challenging UAPA notification

Kashmiri women group Dukhtaran-E-Millat (DeM), has filed a petition with the Delhi High Court to challenge the UAPA’s designation of the group as a terrorist organisation and its subsequent prohibition

Kashmiri women group Dukhtaran-E-Millat (DeM), has filed a petition with the Delhi High Court to challenge the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act’s designation of the group as a terrorist organisation and its subsequent prohibition.

Earlier on December 30, 2004, the state government designated DeM as a terrorist group. The petition’s maintainability was brought up by ASG Chetan Sharma, who described it as being postponed.

However, Justice Anoop Kumar Mendiratta listed the case for additional review on December 15, 2022. Following this, the court ordered the centre to submit a brief with a copy to the petitioner’s knowledgeable attorney within four weeks.

Meanwhile, the group has asked notification that designated it as illegal under section 3 of UAPA and a terrorist group under section 2 (1)(M) of UAPA, 1967, be revoked.

The group has also asked Centre to require it to give a copy of notification banning the petitioner or proclaiming it to be a terrorist organisation in the plea filed through attorneys Nisha Narayan and Shariq Iqbal.

Additionally, it has asked Centre to give instructions to remove the petitioner from UAPA’s list of prohibited groups.
