A man who is accused of raping and killing a pregnant 14-year-old tribal girl who was found hanging from a tree in a village in Jharkhand’s Dumka district on Friday has been detained, police said.
A similar case was registered in Dhumka in which a stalker set a girl on fire.
District police official Sudarshan Prasad Mandal stated that Armaan Ansari, the accused will be presented in court on Sunday. He is charged with rape and murder besides sections of the SC/ST Act and POCSO Act.
She comes from Ranishwar, which is 40 kilometers from the town, and she used to work as a laborer in Dumka. While at work, she met the accused, who is a construction worker. She sometimes resided with a family member in a village close to Dumka, Sriamda, where the body was discovered.
She was pregnant, as confirmed by the post-mortem.
Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister, has taken note. “I am deeply saddened by the incident in Dumka… The accused has been arrested and I have directed Dumka Police to take strict legal steps,” he tweeted, “May God give peace to the departed daughter and give strength to the bereaved family.”
MLAs from the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress coalition were escorted to a resort in Raipur, the capital of Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh, on August 30 as Mr. Soren faced certain disqualification over receiving a mining contract while serving in government.
According to BJP officials, if the investigation isn’t carried out “properly,” it should be handed to agencies under the control of the central government.
This incident comes after one on August 23, when a man is accused of dousing a 16-year-old girl in petrol while she was asleep and setting her on fire.
The teenager, who allegedly turned down his approaches, passed away from the injuries on August 28. In Ranchi on the same day, a 26-year-old male is accused of breaking into a 15-year-old tribal girl’s home and raping her there. Both of the accused were taken into custody.
