Telugu filmmaker Surya Kiran passed away on Monday, March 11, due to jaundice. He was 48. Actress Genelia Deshmukh has now taken to X, which was formerly known as Twitter, to condole his demise. She thanked him for launching her in Telugu cinema with ‘Satyam’. She added that she has memories of working with him.

‘Satyam’, which hit screens in 2003, featured Sumanth-Genelia as the lead pair and marked Surya Kiran’s debut as a director. It emerged as a major commercial success and played for 50 days in 163 centres. Nagarjuna produced the film under Annapurna Studios.
Post ‘Satyam’, Surya Kiran directed ‘Dhana 51’, his second film with Sumanth. He then collaborated with Jagapati Babu for ‘Brahmastram’. He also wielded the microphone for ‘Raju Bhai’ and ‘Chapter 6’.Suriya Kiran also participated in ‘Bigg Boss Telugu 4’ where he became the first contestant to be eliminated.
He married actress Kalyani but they soon went their separate ways . Surya’s sister Sujitha is also an actress. She has appeared in films such as ‘Jathi’, ‘Jai Chiranjeeva’, and ‘Pallikoodam’.
Coming back to Genelia, she returned to the big screen with ‘Mister Mummy’ (2022). The ‘Force’ star then scored a hit with ‘Ved’, the Marathi remake of ‘Majili’. She was last seen in the direct-to-ott film ‘Trial Period’. The movie was directed by Aleya Sen of ‘Dil Juunglee’ fame. Its cast included Manav Kaul, Gajraj Rao, and Shakti Kapoor.
Genelia is currently awaiting the release of ‘Junior’.
