In response to widespread rumors suggesting the imminent shutdown of Gmail, Google has stepped forward to clarify that its popular email service is not facing closure. The rumors, sparked by a screenshot shared online, purported that Gmail would cease operations on August 1, 2024, triggering concerns among users about the potential disruption of email services.

The screenshot, appearing as an email from Google to Gmail users, claimed that Gmail would no longer support sending, receiving, and storing emails after the specified date. Some attributed these speculations to recent controversies surrounding Google’s AI image tool, Gemini, which generated contentious images of racially-diverse Nazi soldiers.

Google swiftly addressed the misinformation, taking to social media to reassure users about Gmail’s continuity. In a post, the tech giant emphatically stated, “Gmail is here to stay,” aiming to quash any unfounded fears.

Tech experts have also weighed in on the matter, clarifying that while Gmail did discontinue its HTML-only version in January 2024, the standard @gmail service remains fully functional and unaffected by the alleged shutdown. Marsha Collier, an esteemed educator in tech, underscored this point, labeling the rumors as a “stupid hoax” and affirming the reliability of the standard @gmail service.

Amidst efforts within the tech community to combat misinformation, users can rest assured that Gmail will continue to serve as a dependable component of their digital communication toolkit.

Meanwhile, Google has introduced its much-anticipated Help Me Write feature to the stable version of the Chrome browser through the Chrome M122 update. Initially unveiled during the Google I/O 2023 event, this innovative addition promises to revolutionize text composition within the browser, offering users enhanced capabilities for crafting content.
