ITV network organised the first edition of We Women Want and Shakti Award conclave on August 24.
Speaking at first edition of We Women Want and Shakti Award conclave 2022, Arif Mohammad Khan, Governor of Kerala said, “I don’t consider women’s issues as women’s issues. I consider them as humanitarian issues.” He said that no country could progress by depriving women of their rights.
When Khan was asked about his resignation in 1986, “ I refused to compromise on Shah Bano case in 1986”, he said.

As the session proceeded, Khan was asked about his views on women and religion.”Greedy men have used religion to suppress women” he said. He further added, “Got attacked 5 times for raising rights of women in Islam”. Khan mentioned that “Women are not physically challenged, they are specially skilled”.

Khan read a verse from the Quran, which he later explained that divorced women should be supported financially by the man who divorced her until she remarries or becomes independent.

Khan urged the people to be educated and to know their rights as citizens. At the same time, he said that women become holy every month due to menstruation, but men lack this system.
