On Sunday, Assam Police recovered 690 kilos of heroin and nabbed two people in the Karimganj area.
On the basis of confidential information, a team from Karimganj district began an operation at Kabariband hamlet under Patharkandi police station on Sunday night and collected 49 soap cases carrying 690 grammes of heroin from a residence owned by Jamil Uddin. However, one of the suspects, Jamil Uddin, escaped the scene.

According to Partha Pratim Das, Additional Superintendent of Police for the Karimganj district, the confiscated narcotics were disguised inside an LPG cylinder.

“We have recovered 49 soap cases containing 690 grams of heroin. We have apprehended two persons in connection with this,” Das said.

The police official further said that the market value of the seized drugs is estimated at around Rs 4.50 crore.

Earlier on September 13, the Assam Police seized 927 kg of ganja in two separate incidents at the Churaibari area in Assam’s Karimganj district along the Assam-Tripura border, said the police.

A squad from the Churaibari police watch post recovered the ganja, while Assam Police and the Central Reserve Police Force confiscated 860 kg of ganja and 40.70 grammes of suspected heroin from a truck in the Karbi Anglong area in a combined operation.

Three people were detained as a result of this seizure.
