India, EU co-chair sixth high-level dialogue on migration, mobility

Discussions about the promotion of secure, orderly, and regular migration took place at the 6th HLDMM, which was co-chaired by India and the European Union.

The 6th High-Level Dialogue on Migration and Mobility (HLDMM), which took place in Brussels on October 27 and was co-chaired by India and the EU, discussed topics pertaining to the promotion of safe, orderly, and regular migration.

The 6th High-Level Dialogue on Migration and Mobility (HLDMM) between India and the European Union was co-chaired by Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, Secretary (Consular, Passport & Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs), and Ms. Monique Pariat, Director General (Migration and Home Affairs), European Commission, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The Dialogue’s fifth iteration took place in New Delhi in July 2019.

The 6th HLDMM also included observers from the diplomatic missions of EU member states in Brussels in addition to the two delegations led by the co-Chairs.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the Indian team included members from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

“A wide variety of topics linked to the promotion of secure, orderly, and regular migration, including the avoidance of irregular migration, were discussed during the 6th India-EU HLDMM. In order to improve the movement of qualified workers, students, and professionals for the advantage of both parties, the two sides also addressed possible areas of collaboration,” the statement added.

Both parties expressed pleasure with the EU-India Common Agenda on Migration and Mobility’s effective implementation (India-EU CAMM).

The MEA stated that the Dialogue is a crucial component of the strategic cooperation between India and the EU as they commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations.
