Jr. NTR: a well-known actor in the Telugu cinema industry and the grandson of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder NT Rama Rao, has been invited by BJP officials to dinner with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday night.

Shah will address a public gathering in Munugode, Telangana. Where there will be a by-election. Hyderabad-based Junior NTR, who contested for the TDP in the 2009 general elections, has shown support for the organisation his grandfather created despite abstaining from active politics.

Since 2009, Junior NTR has prioritised his film career above his public appearances with TDP or other party leaders. While his actor uncle Nandamuri Balakrishna is a TDP MLA in Hindupur, Andhra Pradesh, his father Nandamuri Harikrishna served in the TDP’s Rajya Sabha from 2008 to 2013. With almost a hundred films under his belt, including the most recent Akhanda, Balakrishna is one of the most well-known performers in the Telugu cinema industry (commonly known as Tollywood), and he has received several honours.

Shah and Junior NTR will meet in Ramoji Film City, where Shah would layover on his route to Hyderabad to meet with party leaders, according to BJP national executive member N Ramachander Rao. “Amit Shah will meet with a number of notable individuals this evening, and NTR Junior has also been invited,” Rao stated. A lot of people have praised Junior NTR’s most recent film, RRR, which was directed by SS Rajamouli and also features Ram Charan, who is the son of Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi.

Four of the twelve children born to NTR and his wife Basvarama Tarakam, who wed in May 1943, were girls. NTR’s son-in-law N Chandrababu Naidu, whose wife is NTR’s daughter Nara Bhuvaneswari, walked away with both the party and his political legacy whereas NTR swept into power in 1983 and guided the TDP to victory in its very first election. Only D Purandeswari left the TDP’s fold to pursue a political career among NTR’s own offspring, who have remained minor figures. She is now the BJP’s national general secretary. While one of his aunts, Dr. G Lokeswari, is a gynaecologist, Junior NTR also has three additional uncles who are cinema producers: N Jayakrishna, Mohankrishna, and Ramakrishna Junior.

Why TDP-BJP ties broke

Prior to the 2019 Assembly and legislative elections, the Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP withdrew from the National Democratic Alliance. The TDP had previously been a BJP partner (NDA). Following the split of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, Naidu charged that the Centre had treated the state in a stepmotherly manner. The TDP leader claimed that aside from rejecting special category status, the NDA administration has broken every pledge and commitment outlined in the 2014 AP Reorganisation Act. Before severing connections with the NDA, Naidu requested the resignation of the two Union Ministers of the party, P Ashok Gajapati Raju, who oversaw civil aviation, and Y Satyanarayana Chowdary, who served as the Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences.

Amit Shah made it plain on November 16 in Tirupati during a meeting of the Southern Zonal Council that a future coalition with the TDP was not even an option.
