Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh has tendered his resignation as the national president of the Janata Dal-United during the ongoing National Executive meeting at the Constitution Club in New Delhi. The development comes amid speculations of a leadership change within the party.

Bihar Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary confirmed the resignation offer, stating, “There is a national executive meeting of JD(U) going on. If they accept our proposal, then Nitish Kumar will be the party president. Lalan Singh told CM Nitish Kumar that he will be busy with elections, so he wants to hand over the post of party president to him, and Nitish Kumar accepted it.”

With this development, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is poised to assume the role of JD(U) President at a crucial juncture as the party prepares for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections in 2024 and the Assembly Elections in 2025.

Earlier in the day, members of the JD(U) were seen rallying outside the Constitution Club, chanting slogans such as “Desh ka Pradhan Mantri kaisa ho? Nitish Kumar jaisa ho” expressing their support for Nitish Kumar’s leadership.

The decision also follows the recent INDIA alliance meeting in Delhi, where discussions about the alliance’s strategy took place. The JD(U), being a part of the alliance, is now expected to engage in extensive talks with Congress to finalize the alliance combination for the state.

Notably, some JD(U) leaders are advocating for Nitish Kumar to lead the INDIA bloc. This development occurs against the backdrop of public endorsements by Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal, who have named Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge as a prospective Prime Ministerial candidate.

Posters featuring Bihar CM Nitish Kumar with the slogan ‘Pradesh ne pehchana, ab desh bhi pehchanega’ have been prominently displayed at the National Executive meeting venue.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, Nitish Kumar’s elevation to the leadership position within JD(U) adds a new dimension to the party’s strategy, setting the stage for future political developments in Bihar and beyond.
