Rocky : The Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations start next week, and while devotees are getting ready, the elephant-headed God may not have a comfortable journey due to the region’s pothole-filled roadways.
The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation’s (MBMC) public works department (PWD) claims to have begun patching potholes on a war footing. In the meantime, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) private Metro-rail contractors have been instructed by MBMC Commissioner Dilip Dhole to make sure that all potholes are filled in within the next two days.
The Metro-9 is an expansion of the Metro-7 (Andheri east to Dahisar east). It is a 13.581-km route including a 1.389-km elevated track. There are several potholes on the major road between Dahisar Check Naka and Subash Chandra Bose municipal ground in Bhayandar as a result of the current work, which has gained momentum (west).
“I have set a two-day deadline to plug all potholes on roads that are meant to be maintained by the contractors hired for the Metro-rail work since they are filling them slowly. On the other hand, before Ganeshti, we have already started a mission to try and fill the potholes, said Dhole.
Maxus Mall, Golden Nest Circle, Shivar Garden, and the Kashimira junction are the worst-affected road segments, all of which are littered with potholes of various sizes. The condition of the roads, which have been ravaged by cranes and other heavy equipment being employed by contractors for the ongoing Metro-rail works, has been a nightmare for drivers travelling between Dahisar Check Naka and Bhayandar.
