On Monday, the Ministry of Law and Justice announced the nomination of Justice T Raja as Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, effective September 22.
According to a notification issued in this regard, the President is pleased to appoint Justice T Raja, senior-most Judge of the Madras High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court, with effect from September 22, 2022, following the superannuation of Justice M. Duraiswamy, Judge, who is currently performing the duties of the Chief Justice, Madras High Court.
On May 25, 1961, Justice T. Raja was born in the hamlet of Thenur, Madurai District. He had his early education in a Panchayat Union School in Thenur Village, Pasumalai High School in Madurai from IX to XI Std, P.U.C. at Wakf Board College in Madurai, B.A. Degree at Madurai College, M.A. in Social Work at Madurai, and studied Law at Madurai Law College.
He began his legal career at the Madras High Court in June 1988, after enrolling on June 22, 1988, and was connected with Thiru. C. Selvaraj, Senior Advocate. He moved his profession to the Supreme Court in New Delhi after two and a half years.
He practised Civil, Criminal, Constitutional, and Service law in New Delhi before the High Court of Delhi, the Central Administrative Tribunal, and the Supreme Court. For approximately ten years, he was the Supreme Court’s Standing Counsel for Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. He also represented E.S.I. before the Principal Bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal in New Delhi, as well as the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court.
For almost 6 years, he worked as Standing Counsel for the Supreme Court Legal Services Society in all civil and criminal proceedings. On February 9, 2008, he was appointed as an Additional Advocate General in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, where he appeared in numerous significant cases.
He was appointed as Additional Judge of Madras High Court on March 31, 2009.
