Narcotics & Arms Trafficking Case: NIA conducts searches in Tamil Nadu

According to authorities, National Investigation Agency searched the Chengalpattu district in connection with a case involving the trafficking of weapons and drugs to India and Sri Lanka and found and confiscated equipment as well as papers that might be used as evidence.

The case focuses on the alleged actions of a drug cartel from Sri Lanka that collaborates with a Pakistan-based supplier. In a formal statement by NIA on Froday stated “Today (05.08.2022), the NIA searched a suspect’s Chengalpattu district, Tamil Nadu, home as part of an investigation into the operations of a Sri Lankan narcotics cartel. C. Gunashekharan @Guna and Pushparajah @Pookutti Kanna, along with Haji Salim, a Pakistan-based supplier of drugs and weapons, are in charge of the aforementioned mafia.”

Officials were informed that these narcotics and gun dealers have been active in Sri Lanka and India and have been supporting the LTTE’s violent resurgence.

The searches were conducted after the NIA on July 8 initiated a suo-motu case.

During the searches, authorities found and confiscated digital devices as well as other damning papers.

However, case is currently the subject of more investigations.
