Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to participate in Navy Day celebrations at Sindhudurg in Maharashtra today. The Indian Navy has organized an operational demonstration, showcasing its prowess and capabilities. The event will feature a variety of naval assets, including warships, submarines, aerial assets, maritime surveillance planes, and fighter and trainer aircraft.

The participating warships and submarines include INS Vikramaditya, INS Kolkata, Kochi, Vishakhapatnam, Chennai, Brahmaputra, Beas, Betwa, Tabar, Subhadra, and the Kalvari class submarine INS Khanderi. Helicopters like Chetak, ALH Dhruv, MH60 Romeo, Kamov 31, Seaking 42B will also take part, along with maritime surveillance planes such as the Dornier and P-8I. The fighter and trainer aircraft element will include Hawks, LCA-Navy, and MiG-29K jets.

The theme of the demonstration is ‘Jalamev Yasya, Balamev Tasya’ (The one who controls the sea is all-powerful). The operational demonstration, covering a spectrum of naval operations, will take place at the historic Sindhudurg Fort on the western seaboard of India. The fort, built in 1660 by Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is significant for India’s maritime history and provides an ideal venue for showcasing the Navy’s capabilities.

Admiral R. Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff, will host the event, which will be witnessed from Tarkarli beach by senior Centre and State government officials, military dignitaries, and the local populace. The celebration aims to honor India’s rich maritime history and highlight the country’s determination to conduct operational demonstrations with its frontline assets. Navy Day is celebrated on December 4 to commemorate “Operation Trident,” the daring naval attack on Karachi harbor during the 1971 War.
