The vibe was merry-go-round from Delhi to Mumbai and Chennai to Kolkata on December 31st. People gathered in great numbers at India Gate in Delhi to celebrate the New Year. Special events were held in taverns and clubs around the national capital.

Mumbai, the ‘city of dreams,’ was on edge as people swayed to the exciting musical spectacular at the pubs. A large throng gathered on Mumbai’s Marine Drive to ring in the New Year.

Goa was transformed into a merrymaking nirvana, with beaches adorned with colourful illumination. DJ parties were held in hotels and resorts. Almost all big casinos, restaurants, and bars put on music shows and other unique activities to ring in the new year.

Kochi rang in the New Year with the massive Cochin Carnival in Fort Kochi.

In Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, people welcomed the New Year with brilliant lights, music, and dance. Similarly, a large throng gathered on Mall Road in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, to greet the New Year.

To mark the New Year, famous sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik made an 8-foot-high and 15-foot-long sand sculpture of Lord Jagannatha at Puri beach. Pattnaik used 10 tonnes of sand to make the deities of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra. He adorned the sculpture with flowers and inscribed “Jai Jagannath.”
