Pir baba town police of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) was accused of refusing to lodge a complaint by the family members of a Pakistani Sikh woman of her alleged abduction by a Muslim man.
Even when the daughter was rescued by the police, the family of Deena Kaur (25) alleged that they are not allowed to meet their daughter.
The mother claims that the police have found both Kaur and the Muslim Man, Hesbullah, and they are being kept in the police station.
According to the sources, Deena Kaur had allegedly eloped with the Muslim Man but the police refused to lodge the family’s complaint of abduction, which in turn triggered protests in several districts of KPK by Sikh, Hindu, and Muslim community members alike, demanding to allow the family members to meet her.
Sant Sigh, granthi of the local Gurudwara, declared that the Buner district administration was behind the alleged “abduction of Kaur who was forced to sign a ‘Nikahnama’ and other documents.”
“This arbitrary attitude of the Buner district administration will not be tolerated. We appeal to the global Sikh community to support us and exert pressure on the Pakistani government to deliver justice.”
Whilst in India, BJP Sikh Leader Manjinder Singh Siras urged External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to take up the issue with his Pakistani counterpart and ensure her release.
The Father of the alleged abducted said “Deena was engaged to Munish Kumar and vowed to get married. I have three daughters and a son. Ever since the abduction my family has been under immense strain.”
The alleged abduction was confirmed by Ajay Soran Singh, Buner’s Pakistan Tehereek-e-Insaf party president, and that the police were not allowing the family to meet her.
