UN demands probe into Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif's death

US harshly denounced the shooting of Arshad Sharif and sought for a thorough inquiry by the Kenyan government.

The tragic passing of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif was seen negatively by the UN. Following this, the United Nations has urged that Kenyan authorities conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the killing of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif. According to reports, a gun incident in Kenya on Monday claimed the life of Sharif.

The Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarri remarked “I saw the heartbreaking news of his passing. I believe a comprehensive investigation into the facts is necessary, and the Kenyan authorities confirmed they will do so.”

Earlier on Tuesday, US harshly denounced the shooting of Arshad Sharif and sought for a thorough inquiry by the Kenyan government.

US State Department spokesperson Ned Price sent his condolences to Sharif’s family, friends, and all those who knew him. “We are really sorry for Arshad Sharif’s passing”, he said.

Ned Price also spoke about defending journalists and the freedom of speech. In admiration of Arshad’s accomplishments, he stated “His work was renowned over the world.”

A representative for the US State Department asked Kenya government to conduct a thorough inquiry into Arshad Sharif’s passing. He reportedly remarked, “We urge a complete inquiry. It’s not totally obvious that we know all the facts surrounding what caused his death at this moment.”

Arshad Sharif’s wife Javeria Siddique had earlier on Monday revealed that her husband had been shot and killed in Kenya.
