“Washing hands is an important part of behaviour through which we can save ourselves from different kinds of diseases. Noting that the world observes October 15 as Global Handwashing Day, CM Adityanath expressed happiness that this programme is being taken forward in the state.

Global Handwashing Day is an annual global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and highlighting the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives. The handwashing facilities and effective handwashing should reach the core areas of the world without any inequality.

This will decrease the risk of spreading diseases that impact health, education, and the economic outcomes which is possible only by an inclusive approach without any disparity. Presently, the entire world is infected with the Covid-19 virus, a person can experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment, while in some cases symptoms can be severe.

With specific treatments or a vaccine not yet available, preventing its spread from person to person is vital to reduce the outbreak’s impact on people’s lives, health, livelihoods and the healthcare systems we all rely on. Frequent, thorough handwashing with soap and water is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, including coronavirus. Like the common cold, Covid-19 spreads through droplets from a person coughing or sneezing, and potentially via contaminated surfaces.

To commemorate Global Handwashing Day and highlighting the importance of hygiene awareness amid COVID 19, iTV Foundation, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) wing of iTV Network in collaboration with Dettol launched special programming on Handwashing and its importance on ITV Network channels. Dettol soaps were distributed in various districts of Uttar Pradesh as part of the programme.

Special contest for the viewers was held. In this contest, viewers will share their photographs/ videos on Hand-washing and selected winners will get the Dettol Soap for one year. iTV Foundation pledged to donate 10 lakhs dettol handwash kits and 1 lakh masks for this initiative.
