Post-2-year break, 43-day Annual Pilgrimage To Amarnath Recommences In 2022

Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, reviewed the security arrangements and preparations for the approaching yatra earlier last week.

On June 30, according to sources, the yearly pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave temple in Jammu and Kashmir will resume. It had been put on hold for the previous two years because of the coronavirus pandemic. On August 11, the 43-day yatra will be over.

Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, reviewed the security arrangements and preparations for the approaching yatra earlier last week.

The officers informed the Lieutenant Governor of the overall security situation at a unified command conference in Srinagar. They also gave him an overview of the various plans for the Amarnath Yatra.

According to the official statement from the Lieutenant Governor, “all the work is to be done within the given timetable and officials to ensure optimal use of technology to make the yatra safer and more convenient for the pilgrims.”

The statement said, “All senior officials should routinely monitor the security and every aspect of top-notch transportation, housing, cleanliness, energy, water, communication, health, convenience stores, food courts, vending zones, etc. for Amarnath Yatris.”

The Jammu and Kashmir government had previously stated that pilgrims planning to participate in the Amarnath Yatra will need to provide their Aadhaar cards or voluntarily submit to Aadhaar authentication.

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir, with the prior approval of the Central government, hereby notifies pilgrims desiring to make a pilgrimage to the Shri Amarnathji shrine that they must provide proof of Aadhaar possession or undergo Aadhar authentication on a voluntary basis as of the date of publication of this notification in the official gazet. This is in accordance with Rule 5 of the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social welfare, innovation, Knowledge) Rules 2020

This year’s yatra, which will be the first after the erstwhile state was divided into Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh as Union Territories earlier in 2019, is anticipated to draw almost three lakh pilgrims.
