Presidential Elections 2022: Draupadi Murmu to file nomination tomorrow

The presidential election is scheduled to take place on July 18 and the counting will happen on July 21. NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu is going to contest this election against Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha for the top constitutional post in the country.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu is expected to file her nomination on June 24. Amid tight security, Draupadi Murmu will fly to Delhi on Thursday. Murmu departed from the MCL Guest House in Bhubaneswar earlier this morning to catch a flight to Delhi. In order to welcome Murmu, who has been given Z plus security, people from all spheres of society gathered at the MCL guest house. All of the BJP’s partners, including the chief ministers of the states governed by the NDA, have been invited to participate in the nomination event.

Earlier this week, the BJP-led NDA announced Draupadi Murmu as its candidate for the upcoming Presidential elections. Draupadi Murmu was first considered a contender five years ago when President Pranab Mukherjee was set to leave Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Murmu is going to become the first tribal President of India and the second-ever female President if she gets elected. Murmu was born on June 20, 1958, and she served as the Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021.

In a recent tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Smt. Draupadi Murmu Ji has devoted her life to serving society and empowering the poor, downtrodden as well as marginalized. She has rich administrative experience and had an outstanding gubernatorial tenure. I am confident she will be a great President of our nation.”

Murmu has served as an MLA from Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj twice on a BJP ticket. During her term with the Odisha government, she held the portfolios of Commerce and Transport, then Fisheries and Animal Husbandry. With the NDA holding a 48 percent electoral vote lead, Murmu is predicted to win the upcoming presidential election.
