President Droupadi Murmu will travel London, UK, from September 17 to 19, to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral and offer condolences on behalf of the Indian government.

“Queen Elizabeth II, the former head of state of the UK and Head of the Commonwealth of Nations passed away on 8 September. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed condolences at the demise of Queen Elizabeth II. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar visited the British High Commission in New Delhi on 12 September to convey India’s condolences.

India also observed a day of national mourning on Sunday, 11 September,” read the Ministry of External Affairs statement. The statement added in the 70 years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, India-UK ties have evolved, flourished and strengthened immensely. She played an important role in the welfare of millions of people worldwide as Head of the Commonwealth.

On September 8, the British Queen died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

The death of the 96-year-old Queen brought to an end a seven-decade reign that saw her as a beacon of stability in a turbulent world. The United Kingdom has declared a state of mourning, with tributes flooding in from all around the world.

King Charles III was named the next ruler of England on Saturday, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8. Furthermore, upon the Queen’s death, the national anthem of the United Kingdom will be “God Save the King.”

Operation London Bridge was created by UK authorities to manage events in the first ten days following the Queen’s death and burial.

They had considered Operation Unicorn in the event that the queen died in Scotland.

The funeral will be conducted at Westminster Abbey on September 19, followed by a committal service at Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel. Following that, Queen Elizabeth II will be laid to rest at the castle’s King George VI Memorial Chapel.

The Queen was born at 17 Bruton Street in Mayfair, London, on April 21, 1926. She was the Duke and Duchess of York’s first child, who subsequently became King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.
