The “Baghban” actor spoke at length about communalism, societal harmony, pre-independence films that fought oppressors, and British censorship. Amitabh stated during his speech that “even now, ladies and gentlemen, and I am sure my colleagues on stage will agree, questions are being raised on civil liberties and freedom of expression.” The 1952 cinematograph act established the stricter of censorship as it is today, upheld by the film certification board.

Along with Amitabh, other celebrities that attended the lavish inaugural event in Kolkata were Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Jaya Bachchan, and director Mahesh Bhatt.

The 28th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival, presented by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department of the Government of West Bengal, is slated to take place between December 15 and December 22, 2022, in Kolkata, according to the official website.

In the meantime, Amitabh has lately been spotted in the family-friendly movie “Uunchai” opposite Anupam Kher, Parineeti Chopra, and Boman Irani.
