Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and EAM Jaishankar to meet tomorrow

Lavrov’s visit to India is his first since Moscow’s “special military operation” in Ukraine last month. After a two-day visit to China, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is set to arrive in New Delhi this evening. Lavrov’s visit follows China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to India last week and also comes ahead of the 2+2 discussions between India and the US on April 11.

The Russian Foreign Minister, who arrives in India on Thursday for a two-day official visit, is slated to meet and speak with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday.

Meanwhile, in China, Lavrov met with his Chinese colleague Wang Yi on Wednesday, and both sides promised to expand bilateral ties. Lavrov briefed the Chinese side on the Russia-Ukraine talks, stating that Russia is dedicated to lowering tensions, continuing peace talks with Ukraine, and keeping contact with the international community.

Russia’s Foreign Minister attended two multilateral talks on Afghanistan, including officials from Pakistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

Lavrov also met with representatives from China and Pakistan, as well as an “Extended Troika” meeting with special Afghan envoys from China and the US.
