Before they were killed, two volunteer soldiers opened fire on other soldiers at a Russian military firing range close to Ukraine, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The incident happened in the southwest Russian province of Belgorod, which borders Ukraine, according to a statement from the ministry. According to the report, during target practise, two volunteers from an unknown former Soviet country opened fire on other soldiers before being killed in retaliation.

The event was classified as a terrorist attack by the ministry.

According to TASS, which quoted the Russian Defense Ministry, the assault took place on Saturday during a training exercise in the Western Military District.

Former Soviet nations were allegedly the origins of the shooters. Officials from Russia have classified the incident as a terrorist act.

A terrorist incident at a military training facility in the Belgorod area resulted in 11 fatalities, 15 injuries, and the need for medical care for 15 more, according to TASS.

“The tragedy happened as volunteers were practising their shooting techniques in advance of a special mission. Small-arms fire from the terrorists hit the unit’s men.”

According to TASS, the “terrorist attack” perpetrators were killed by retaliatory gunfire in the practise area.

In western Russia, close to the Ukrainian border, is the Belgorod area.
