Following the cyberattack on AIIMS, a second prestigious medical centre in the city experienced damage to its systems. Safdarjung Hospital, which is close by, reported the incident. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi, one of India’s top hospitals, has been operating in manual mode with its servers offline for the last 11 days when the most recent hacking incident occurred.
The cyber assault at Safdarjung Hospital was not as bad as AIIMS, which is currently halted and unable to handle the influx of patients. Safdarjung assault is unlikely to raise the same concerns as AIIMS, where medical records of thousands of patients are in danger of a leak, as much of the facility is still operated manually.
The director of Safdarjung Hospital, Dr. BL Sherwal, was reported by the media agency as stating, “The hackers targeted the hospital system a few days ago, and the server was down for a day.” He said that the cyber assault was not of a “higher degree” and that just a small portion of the facility was damaged.
The cyber assault on AIIMS is still under investigation. Although the system is currently being sanitised, the eHospital data has been recovered. Three crore patients’ medical records are in jeopardy. There were rumours that hackers were holding the AIIMS administration for a 200 billion rupee ransom, however, Delhi Police denied these claims.
The investigation has the participation of many investigating agencies. The event is being treated as a “terrorist attack.” The ransomware assault is believed to have been carried out by Chinese and Korean hackers.
The problem was fixed at Safdarjung Hospital by the administration and a National Informatics Centre (NIC) team, and data was safeguarded. The servers are now properly functioning.
