Following the submission of a government survey’s findings, Saharanpur district officials proclaimed Darul Uloom, Deoband, an Islamic educational institution as an “illegal” unrecognised madrassa on Sunday.
As per district officials report 306 additional unrecognised Islamic educational institutes have been listed as being unlawful. District Minority Welfare Officer Bharat Lal Gond remarked, “The Administration received information on 306 unlawful madrasas that were located. Due to its status as an unlawful madrasa, Darul Uloom Deoband is also denied access to scholarships and other programmes.”
He said, “An inquiry was carried out based on specifications given by Administration, such as the year the madrasa was founded, the group that manages it, the name of the madrasa, and its source of money.”
BL Gond further said, “A complaint will be made based on that action whatever action the administration takes.”
According to reports there are 754 madrassas registered with the local government. Out of these 80 are up to class 8th, 664 are up to class 5th, and the rest10 madrassas are till class 10.
Uttar Pradesh government began the process of surveying Islamic educational institutes last month.
The government decree specifies that the survey will be based on 12 factors. As per government directives, District Magistrate (DM) has organised the teams of officials for the Madrassas survey.
UP government had previously announced that it will audit madrassas that were not recognised to gather data on their enrollment, faculty, curriculum, and association with any non-governmental organisations.
