'Sanatana dharma like HIV, leprosy' DMK Minister A Raja Sparks Controversy, FIR Filed

DMK Minister and Member of Parliament A Raja stated on Thursday that Sanatana dharma should be likened to conditions with societal stigma, such as HIV and leprosy.

In the midst of the ongoing debate surrounding Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s comments on Sanatana dharma, DMK Minister and Member of Parliament A Raja stated on Thursday that Sanatana dharma should be likened to conditions with societal stigma, such as HIV and leprosy.

Raja further said, “Udhayanidhi’s take on Sanatana dharma was soft.”

“So, we need to see this as a disease ridden with social plights like HIV and leprosy,” the DMK MP said.

“Bring anybody, I’m ready to debate on Sanatana dharma, “A Raja said, adding, “I don’t mind even if it is 10 lakh or 1 crore. Let them carry any sort of weapons, I’ll come and debate with Periyar and Ambedkar books in Delhi.”

On Wednesday, A Raja stated that he was ready to provide responses to all cabinet ministers if a meeting is convened by the Prime Minister.

Earlier this month, Udhayanidhi Stalin claimed that Sanatana Dharma is incompatible with principles of equality and social justice, advocating for its elimination. Drawing parallels between Sanatana Dharma and diseases like corona virus, malaria, and dengue fever transmitted by mosquitoes, he argued that such elements should not be resisted but eradicated.

His statements generated significant controversy, with Amit Malviya, in charge of the BJP’s IT department, asserting that the DMK leader had essentially called for the “extermination” of the 80% of the population who adhere to Sanatana Dharma. Udhayanidhi, however, dismissed this accusation.

Udhayanidhi, son of Chief Minister MK Stalin, said the very name ‘Sanatana’ is from Sanskrit.

“What is the meaning of Sanatana? It is eternal, that is, it cannot be changed; no one could pose any question and that is the meaning.” Sanatana divided people on the basis of caste, he alleged.

Vineet Jindal, Political Analyst, Advocate at Supreme Court of india filed a complaint Against A RAJA DMK leader for his derogatory Provovative, inflammotary, and inciting statement against sanatana dharma.

He stated that being a sanatan dharma follower my religious sentiments are hurt by the statements given by A Raja. The Statements are also provocative and defamatory in nature with the intent to promote enmity between groups on the grounds of religion.
