A student of Shiv Nadar University student shot and killed a female classmate on campus before shooting himself, the police said. The 21-year-old later committed suicide at the boy’s hostel. According to the police, both were third-year BA Sociology students.

Before pulling out a gun and shooting his friend, the student hugged her. According to a police official, the woman was rushed to the hospital and declared dead.

“Around 1.30pm on Thursday, the administrative officials of Shiv Nadar University alerted the police that a woman student was shot dead by her classmate outside the dining hall on the university campus. The woman student, identified as Sneha Chaurasia, who hailed from Kanpur, was immediately rushed to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida where she was declared brought dead,” SM Khan, deputy commissioner of police, Greater Noida said.

In a 23-minute-long video statement that the accused recorded before the crime and committing suicide, he said that the victim had broken up with him on the pretext that “she was depressed” and later started seeing someone else.

“She went home for New Year and told me we would start afresh when she comes back. However, when she returned, she told me she wanted a break. I asked her for how long. She said ‘indefinitely’,” he said.

According to the video statement, he could not accept that and the ties between them deteriorated, so much so that the girl complaned to the college authorities against him.

“Call me selfish, monster, coward. I am OK with being called anything but I’m sorry for my actions,” he further said.

Revealing that he is in the third stage of brain cancer and does not have much longer to live, he said, “If I don;t get my surgery, then at the maximum, I have two years. I’m broke, shattered.”

Then, ominously, he said, “She needs to be punished.”

A spokesperson from Shiv Nadar University said, “Our utmost priority is the safety and well-being of our students, employees, and the entire community. We are fully cooperating with the authorities in their investigation.”
